You hear Fwip Fwip as bullets pass by your head, other times it can sound like laser beams, next thing you know a squib bursts out amd blood smacks your face from your chest.
Hollywood gun silencers have led us to believe that James Bond is capable of sneaking up on 30 guards – killing them one by one without ever being spotted using his silenced Beretta 418 .25 caliber. It’s the Rule Of Cool: the smooth assassin can make his hit, then melt into the night with nary a sound.
But try doing that in reality and you will be running from the cops in a matter of minutes. Below are six of the lamest uses of gun silencers in popular movies.
You can listen to the silencer sound or watch the movie scene on Youtube (viewer discretion is advised as these scenes obviously contain fired guns).
6 Die Hard 2
Greatest one liner ever, “yippee ki yay mother…” as said best by Bruce Willis. The villain in this clip uses a silencer that make his guns sound like hammer hitting sheet metal. While this may portray the most accurate sound of a silencer in this list, it is still far from the truth.
Possibly one of the most random movies I have ever seen. This movie must have included every genre, action, romance, porn, gore, adventure, comedy, the list goes on. However if you listen to the one shot he was able to get off, you will here the classic Hollywood “fwip”.
4 The Departed
So begins the movies in this list that star Marky Mark Walberg. While Martin Scorsese may be one of the greatest director of all time, how does this movie get best sound when the bullet that just killed Matt Damon sounded like a freakin’ laser beam shot from a weapon in Star Wars.
3 Boondock Saints
In nomine patris et filii et spiritus sancti…fwip, fwip, bang. One of the greatest movies of all times! But I don’t understand the point of using their silencers when the father blows that guys head off with a shotgun? These scene may have been better if nothing was silenced.
2 Punisher: War Zone
Yet another great action film filled with explosions and blood everywhere! However, if you listen real close as he mows down those bad guys, it sounds like hes using a fully automatic nail gun. It still amazes me how they make it seem like the hero manages to avoid every bullet except one as 20 plus guys are shooting at him and he kills them all, but then it would be an action movie now would it.
1 No Country for Old Men
This clip makes it to number one because obviously this guy attached a soda can to the end of his shotgun to make a silencer and used one of the epic scenes from Star Wars to dub over the shots fired from his gun. Great movie, just saying it could have been a bit more realistic when it came to the sound of his gun. Do they even have shotgun silencers?
