I seem to remember that when I was young, one of the things I wanted to ‘be’ when I grew up was a spy, along with a dinosaur, a karate champion and a racing driver. I didn’t matter that I knew very little about what spies actually did, I just wanted to dress up in a trench coat and a bowler hat and walk around inspecting things with a microscope.
Of course as I grew up my perceptions of spies changed, mainly as a result of my exposure to James Bond movies. Moving into my early teens I naively assumed being a spy was all about travelling the world playing with spy gadgets, meeting beautiful women, driving fast cars and defeating bad guys. This is of course also totally inaccurate, and now, in my mid-twenties and understanding a little more about the role of a soy, I’m still not entirely sure what it is they do!
With this in mind I thought it would be fun to rewind to my youth when things were much more innocent and fun. Here are my top five cartoon spies;
