6 Organizations Pulling No Punches for Their Good Causes

August 9, 2025January 28, 2013 by admin

The world can be a challenging place for the people and animals who call it home. Thankfully, there are many organizations that work hard to make the world a better place. It is always a good idea to single out and recognize the people and groups that put aside their own needs to focus on the needs of others.

1 PETA

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is a group that has over three million members all over the world who focus solely on animal rights. PETA saves animals by speaking up for animals and going into dangerous situations to help save helpless creatures. The group has worked hard to bring animal abuse into the public conscience, and has helped to punish those that are cruel to pets and wild animals.

2 The Bayat Foundation

The Bayat Foundation is a group that most Americans may not be familiar with, but it has been instrumental in helping to rebuild the war-torn country of Afghanistan. The foundation was started by Afghan entrepreneur Ehsan Bayat and has helped to bring communications, schools, hospitals, clean water, food and new technology to Afghanistan. It is an organization that is changing the way that the world looks at, and approaches, developing nations.

3 First Book

First Book is an aggressive and successful literacy group that brings books to adults and children who want to learn how to read. One of the things that the group is most known for is its ability to apply 97 cents from every dollar it takes towards helping to promote the cause of literacy. It is a financial model that other charities try to copy, but few are successful. In 2005, First Book was responsible for collecting nearly two million books to be redistributed to poor and illiterate people.

4 Verizon Hopeline Program

When a company forgoes profits to help out in a charitable cause, that is something worth noting. The Hopeline Program started by Verizon Wireless gives free wireless phones and wireless service to battered women’s shelters all over the country. In 2009, Verizon estimates that it gave away 69 million minutes of talk time to women in need. The company accepts old cellular phones and then refurbishes them as part of the program.

5 The Children’s Aid Society

Children who are neglected or growing up in dysfunctional homes need help to realize their full potential. The Children’s Aid Society has been helping children all over the United States since 1853. Its goal is to help provide children with the educational, financial and emotional support they need to be successful.

6 Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity works all over the country to provide affordable housing for the poor. In order to get a home from Habitat for Humanity, a person must agree to make payments on a no-interest home loan, and put in at least 500 hours actually building his home. The group relies primarily on volunteers and donated materials to make the dream of home ownership come true.
Working hard for the benefit of others is not easy. If you feel strongly about a particular cause, then donate what resources you can to help those in your area that are less fortunate.
