And with no further ado, here’s the list of all Fast and Furious movies:
The Fast and the Furious (2001)

As the first Fast and Furious movie in the series, The Fast and the Furious of 2001 was quite a refreshing type of action movie. Lots of flashy cars, CGI shots of NOS (nitro) being activated and great emphasis on gear changes. Although the subculture of street racing was of course not new, it set in motion a greater popularization of the “sport” and car tuning in general. The critical reception wasn’t great due to the story and acting not being all that sparkling, but it cannot be denied that this original Fast and Furious movie is now part of popular movie history. Also, upcoming movies in the series continuously set a higher standard for the art of car chasing scenes with each release.
- Main cast: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker
- Directed by: Rob Cohen
- Story location: Los Angeles
- Filming budget: $38,000,000

2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)

The second installment in the Fast and Furious movies series was unfortunately not a great success, with pretty low ratings, but the overall gross earnings were still high at over $230 million worldwide.
- Main cast: Paul Walker, Tyrese Gibson
- Directed by: John Singleton
- Story location: Florida, California
- Filming budget: $76,000,000

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006)

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift seems to drift away from the main storyline and feels a bit different in terms of racing scenes. The biggest noticeable difference is that in Tokyo drift there’s much more actual stunts and less dependency on CGI and other graphical tricks. This makes it quite an enjoyable movie in the Fast and Furious series, even though the’re pretty negative reception from criticts (even worse than 2 Fast 2 Furious). Just don’t expect a high end story and award-winning acting.
- Main cast: Lucas Black, Damien Marzette, Shad Moss, Vin Diesel is also in there, but uncredited
- Directed by: Justin Lin
- Story location: Alabama, Tokyo
- Filming budget: $85,000,000

Fast & Furious (2009)

To keep things entertaining, the Fast and Furious movies increasingly rely on over the top action and, in this case once again, heavy CGI-infused car chase scenes. It’s where some critics are starting to worry that these movies tend to be popular enough and generate enough gross income to keep making new installments of the Fast and Furious brand.
Still, Fast & Furious of 2009 is fun to watch, but I guess that’s only true if you like flashy cars, heavy action and hot bodies (car and human).
- Main cast: Paul Walker, Tyrese Gibson
- Directed by: Justin Lin
- Story location: Los Angeles, Mexico (desert)
- Filming budget: $85,000,000

Fast Five (2011)

Fast Five of 2011 is a turning point in the Fast and Furious franchise. Not only because of even better action in scenes like the final car chase (which is arguably a ground-breaking level of action in a Hollywood car chase scene), but also the addition of Dwayne Johnson to the main cast, who adds great chemistry among the characters.
The franchise also matured in storytelling, moving away from the previous movies’ street racing theme towards a story line with more depth and scale. This fifth release in the line of Fast and Furious movies with an overall good critical reception, especially compared to its predecessors. Fast Five set the stage for a better generation of Fast and Furious movies to follow.
- Also known as: Fast and Furious 5
- Main cast: Paul Walker, Tyrese Gibson, Dwayne Johnson
- Directed by: Justin Lin
- Story location: Rio de Janeiro
- Filming budget: $125,000,000

Fast & Furious 6 (2013)

After the success of Fast Five (2013) the franchise took off with increasingly explosive and exciting action and a very international set of story locations, from London to the Canary Islands and Lost Angeles. This direction, and its strong and matured cast helped Fast & Furious 6 become the highest grossing installments of the Fast and Furious movies franchise at that time. Its critical reception was a bit lower than predecessor Fast Five, which helped set the new formula, but overall still generally positive.
- Main cast: Paul Walker, Tyrese Gibson, Dwayne Johnson
- Directed by: Justin Lin
- Story location: London
- Filming budget: $160,000,000

Fast & Furious 7 (2014)

Sadly, this movie was released posthumously for actor Paul Walker, who died in a car crash in November of 2013. By then, filming was only half-way to completion, which of course caused some delay. Paul Walker’s brothers Caleb and Cody Walker were prepared to join in as stand-ins in for their brother’s scenes. Upon release, the critical reception was very good and the movie not only scored well with critics, but also took only 12 days to become the highest grossing and highest rated Fast and Furious movie to date. It still is the ninth highest grossing movie of all time, at a humongous $1.5 billion earned worldwide, just one position below The Avengers (2012).
Another fun fact to mention is that the air drop scene, showing cars being dropped out of a Lockheed C-130 Hercules military airplane, was actually real. Stunt coordinator, Spiro Razatos also worked on the previous two Fast and Furious movies and wanted to rely less on CGI and more on real stunts. Dropping cars out of an airplane and filming it for the big screen can definitely be called a “real stunt”!
- Also known as: Furious 7
- Main cast: Paul Walker, Tyrese Gibson, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham
- Directed by: James Wan
- Story location: Los Angeles (USA), Azerbaijan, Abu Dhabi
- Filming budget: $190,000,000

The Fate of the Furious (2017)

Another box office success and top 20 highest grossing movie of all time, The Fate of the Furious of 2017 was received with mixed reviews due to some less depth of story, but praise in terms of high quality action scenes and acting performances.
- Also known as: The Fast and the Furious 8 or even as short as F8
- Main cast: Vin Diesel, Jason Statham, Dwayne Johnson
- Directed by: F. Gary Gray
- Story location: New York City (USA), Russia
- Filming budget: $250,000,000

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019)

Hobbs & Shaw is a spin-off of the official Fast and Furious movie franchise, but chronologically still placed in between The Fate and the Furious (or Fast and Furious 8) and the upcoming title F9 (or Fast and Furious 9). The film received mixed reviews, but overall in line with the other Fast and Furious movies since Fast Five in 2011.
- Main cast: Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Idris Elba
- Directed by: David Leitch
- Story location: London (UK), Samoa
- Filming budget: $200,000,000
