Waking up early in the morning is never easy. I know that for a fact because I am not a morning person. When I wake up early, much of the morning hours are spent on yawning and spacing out. Believe me, it is not a pretty sight to see.

Another thing I hate about this is that I can’t seem to think straight. My mind wanders off until I find myself hitting my head on the computer monitor when I finally doze off. Oh dear! Don’t let the same funny things happen to you. If only I can wake up early in the morning without stressing myself out. Are you dealing with the same problem as well? Maybe this list of quirky yet effective “wake up techniques” in this post can help you get up early!

Tip #1: Place your alarm clock out of reach

Place your alarm clock far enough for you to walk towards it yet close enough so that you can hear the alarm ringing. This tip worked for me. Because I get too annoyed with the constant ringing, I have no choice but to get up. As soon as I get up and reach the alarm clock, all my sleepiness is gone. Just like that.

Tip #2: Different alarm clock locations

Put your alarm clock in different places every day. If you put your alarm clock on your bedside table, you will just hit the snooze button every day. But if you don’t put it in the same place daily, you will have to get up, think, and remember where you last placed it. Finding where the alarm noise is coming from forces your brain to start functioning too. This will you give a jolt and make you wide awake.

Tip #3: Mom’s nagging voice

Record your mom’s nagging voice and make it your alarm tone. However, this only works if you don’t like to be pestered by your lovely mama’s insights about life. But if you are used to ignoring her voice and life lessons, this might not work for you. If you want, you can record your mother-in-law’s nagging voice. But make sure that you ask your other half’s permission first. They might get offended by this.

Tip #4: Out Of Tune Singing

If the nagging voice does not work for you, record a singing voice that is out of tune. Yes, this technique worked for me too. In my case, I recorded my sister’s singing voice (sorry sis, I had to do it). I honestly cannot stand her singing so I used it as an alarm tone. When I did this, I woke up early for eight straight days for finals week. My winning streak ended though when she caught me using her voice as an alarm. Really sorry sis!

Tip #5: Wake-up call

Ask somebody to call you in the morning. It can be your significant other or your best buddy. You can update each other about the latest gossip at work or the dreams you’ve been having. Anything goes! Talk about anything mentally stimulating or maybe something shocking just so you can get out of your sleepy state.

I have tried each of these techniques and they all worked out well for me. However, they became less effective as time passed by because I became used to them so I recommend you use each one of these methods sporadically. You can invent more quirky ways for yourself too. The important thing is that your method of choice can drag you away from your bed. I found my quirky ways. What about you? Good luck and start getting up early!
