Top 10 Most Talked-About Celebrity Breakups in 2013

Another year has come and gone, and so have Hollywood relationships. While it seems there is a break up per day in the entertainment industry, here are 10 that resonated a little deeper with fans across the world.

1 Taylor Swift & Harry Styles

Taylor obviously knew that Harry was trouble when he walked in, and they ended their short-lived relationship after only a month or so of dating. This was the first big breakup of the year, as it ensued after a rocky holiday vacation in the Caribbean. Hopefully 2014 will start out better for both of these young stars than 2013 did.

2 Katy Perry & John Mayer

These on again-off again stars seemed like they were heading in a more permanent direction, but they became permanently split instead. The singing sensations announced the break up in March of this year, after 7 months of dating.

3 Julianne Hough & Ryan Seacrest

After nearly a three-year relationship, this dynamic duo decided to split and live in separate houses again. Citing their busy schedules as the cause of the break-up, Hough and Seacrest just didn’t feel they could balance the relationship with their own careers. They also split in March.

4 Kristen Stewart & Robert Pattinson

Personally, I was relieved when this vampire couple called it quits in May—their relationship just reminded me too much of the awkwardness that is the Twilight series. After a rocky history and Stewart’s affair with director Rupert Sanders (which led to his own divorce), Stewart and Pattinson just couldn’t hold it together anymore. Pattinson moved out of their shared home, effectively putting an end to their year-long romance.

5 Stacy Kiebler & George Clooney

Women everywhere can now return to ogling Clooney in peace—he and his latest girlfriend of two years, Stacy Kiebler, broke up in July of this last year. Rumors state that Kiebler wanted to have a family in the future, but Clooney has strong opinions against doing so. Their irreconcilable differences caused the split.

6 Catherine Zeta-Jones & Michael Douglas

This was always the Hollywood couple to admire—when all the couples around them were calling it and breaking up, Catherine and Michael stayed true. Unfortunately, though, even they might have succumbed to the Hollywood divorce saga. The couple announced in August that they were separating, although neither has filed for divorce. They have been married for 13 years, but a lot of strain was put on the marriage with Douglas’s throat cancer and Jones’s recent stint in a treatment center for bipolar disorder.

7 Miley Cyrus & Liam Hemsworth

We can’t be honest with ourselves and say we didn’t see this coming. Hemsworth, the seemingly upstanding, handsome hunk from down under, and Cyrus, the practically-nude, twerking partyer? Come on, the universe wouldn’t allow it. They finally called off their engagement in September, about two weeks after her “appearance” on the VMA’s. It seems that Hemsworth is doing fine.

8 Kris & Bruce Jenner

Fans everywhere of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” cried that October day when Kris and Bruce Jenner formally announced their separation. After 22 years of marriage, the celebrity couple have found more happiness living separately than under the same roof. They still remain friends, though, and name family as their top priority.

9 Miranda Kerr & Orlando Bloom

Apparently, Miranda and Orlando figured out what the rest of us knew all along—it’s just not fair to have that much beauty in one marriage. All joking aside, it is sad that this couple of six years (married for three) is separating, announced in October. It seems amicable, though, especially as they are trying to find the best solution for their son, Flynn.

10 Idina Menzel & Taye Diggs

This Broadway and Musical Theater super couple just announced this month that they will be divorcing after an 11-year marriage. The couple met when they both worked on the musical Rent, and have been together ever since. Reports say the divorce was a mutual decision.

We can only hope that these stars will find love again in 2014… and that there will be some more breakups and drama to keep us entertained.
