There are some animals in this world that just make you stop and go, “Whaaaaa…..” These animals deserve recognition for their peculiar talents and that is exactly what I intend to give them. Whether it be the Borneo Hills Ninja Slug giving Cupid a bad name or the Suicidal Ant protecting its queen with its life (and I mean that quite literally) these animals deserve a big shout out and are respect. So without further ado let me show you what these absolutely wonderful animals can do.

1Mimic Octopus
Now we all know that octopuses can change their color and texture and are the masters of camouflage but the Mimic Octopus takes this to a whole new level. It can actually impersonate other animals! This ability is triggered by the presence of predators and the Mimic Octopus can actually take up the form of at least 15 species (it is assumed they can take the form of a lot more but these are the confirmed sighting of the Mimic Octopus changing to look like other species) including a jellyfish, lionfish, sea snake and many more. The Mimic Octopus made the list because it is the James Bond of the ocean and who doesn’t love old James.

2The Immortal Jellyfish
The immortal Fish amazing ability is pretty obvious no? Well for those of you who haven’t got it, the immortal jellyfish is the only animal with a claim to that illusion immortality trait! That’s right it technically can live forever.
“How does it achieve this?”
Well, what the immortal jellyfish does is it goes back to the start of its own life-cycle. This process is called “transdifferentiation” which is essentially the ability to transform one type of specialized cell into a completely new one. During this process, the Medusa undergoes a physical transformation, powered by its own physical matter, into the beginning of a polyp colony which is the beginning of the life cycle for the immortal jellyfish. The immortal jellyfish can do this indefinitely making it the only species alive with a claim to immortality unless you believe all those new vampire movies (shudder).

3The Suicidal Ant
This incredibly brave/stupid species of ant is found in Malaysia and Brunei. The worker ants have a very unique form of territorial defense. They literally explode and secrete concentrated toxic waste from its head over the victim/s. This toxic waste causes smaller predators limbs to become entangled and leaves the predator very vulnerable to any other ants or a counter attack. Who knew ants where such tactical geniuses!

4Borneo Hills Ninja Slug
Now I am not one to condone any positive qualities about slugs. Seriously, they eek me out but this particular is pretty dam cool. It has a tail three times the length of its body and can wrap it around itself. Which is kind of disgusting and not its positive quality but I just decided I’d tell you all its unique talents. Its awesome ability is its use of “love darts”. These love darts are tipped with hormones that get other slugs in the mood if you know what I mean. An excellent form of reproduction and although I am repulsed by slugs I am a little jealous at the moment.

5Self-Healing Axolotl
This axolotl has a magic power. This power is super healing and makes the self-healing axolotl top of my list. Super healing is a cool trait and this animal can literally regenerate absolutely any non vital body part and even parts of the brain! Not to mention the huge benefits this animal can have for mankind if we can find out how to pass this trait on to humans. It would be absolutely amazing.

My favorite animal is the suicidal ant. That is one seriously committed, determined ant and all in defense of a cause that it feels is bigger than its life, one word; respect. I hope you enjoyed this list and don’t forget to comment about what animal is your favorite and if you could be ever so kind and give it a share or a like it would be most appreciated!
