Now that Vietnamese developer Dong Nguyen has pulled his major success-app Flappy Bird from the App Store and Google Play Store, we are left with a gorge in our lives. The emptiness is unbearable, especially for those that did not have the chance to download this gem before it died.
Was it an emotional choice to put Flappy down? Was it an assassination by Luigi orchestrated by Mario and the Nintendo bosses, jealous of how it sported graphics similar to the land of Mario and his friends? No one can be sure.
Luckily, a number of brave knights have ventured on a quest to replace Flappy Bird, even before its sudden tragic demise. The Flappy Bird alternatives may not be as cute, but certainly can have a similar addicting feel to it.
Try and have a go at these funny little smartphone games:
Contents
1 Flappy Fish (Android only)
Flappy Bird may be gone, but his distant relative Flappy Fish carries on his legend underwater.

Look at this little hero go. Already 23 points and his quest has only just begun.

Flappy Fish, a breed of giants!

2 Flappy Octopus (Android)
Flappy Fish is not alone underwater. This inky critter can do the exact same tricks, but with eight arms so I guess this is a great advantage.

The controls for Flappy Octopus are maybe even better than the original Flappy Bird game

The Flappy Octopus game menu. Don’t get lost!
3 Fly Birdie (iOS only)
This tropical Flappy Bird alternative seems a bit easier and a whole lot less appealing to the eye than the original, but still, it’s worth your time. The game’s icon totally rocks.

Get ready to pwn the sky.

Look at that little pixel go!
4 Ironpants (Android/iOS)
This is actually the best alternative to Flappy Bird and it’s available for both iPhone and Android phones. I just place it at number four to appear unbiased and keep you reading. Did it work?
Now let’s hope Marvel or DC Comics doesn’t don’t pick up on Nintendo’s idea to have Iron Man and Superman kill Ironpants. Or were those just rumors?

Go ironman! Uh – pants!

Striking menu. I love it.
5 Clumsy Bird (Android only)
Wait, is this list up-side down or something?
Clumsy Bird and Flappy Bird may have no family ties, but the objectives are the same. Tap-’n-Flap!

This game is actually played in landscape mode. This revolutionary playing style gives you more line of sight.

This lazy-eyed birdie is quite lovable. Look at him flap his gorgeous little wings.

6 Flappy Bird (Windows Phone)
Apart from owning a phone that runs on Windows, Windows Phone users are the luckiest people on earth. Someone has ripped-off Flappy Bird and single-handedly transformed it into a Windows App! Pwned!

I guess this game doesn’t need further introduction

Game Over for Flappy Bird, but not for Windows Phone users!

7 Flappy Bee (iOS only)
BzzzzzzzzzZZZZZzzzz! Here in The Netherlands we’re experiencing the crappiest winter (read: autumn) ever, which will probably cause the entire flying annoyance population of bees, wasps and mosquitoes to thrive and take over the nation. Even so, this sweet little alternative to Flappy Bird still deserves a mention.

This is the best technique to hold your phone. Look at the arched middle finger and tremble in awe.

Yes. A scholarship of $250,000 was the least they could do for this work of genius.

8 FlappyDoge (web HTML5 game)
If you’re still not satisfied, or you simply don’t own a smartphone (huh?) then FlappyDoge (doag? doggy? heh?) is your friend. Have a go at it and tell me if this is not perfectly fantastic.

I totally suck at all these tap-fly games by the way.

9 Fluffy vs. Flappy birds (iOS only)
The only advice I have is to spend as much on the in-game purchase possibilities as you can. It’s worth it.

Play it now. Seriously!
